If you go to the Google search engine and type in

(just like that, with no " at the ends) you'll see my page titled "The Good Search Experience" is at the top out of an estimated 64,000,000 rankings.
Impressive, huh?
Well no, actually it isn't, as the phrase is meaningless and no-one is searching for it.
If you go again to the Google search engine and type in
"the good search experience"
(this time including the " at both ends) then you'll just get two pages (probably three when the page you're reading gets indexed) in the returns.
Why? Because there's only these two/three pages that are optimised for this particular phrase. No-one else wants it.
Now you'll have seen, in your search for a Search Engine Positioning company, a few sites offering guaranteed top search engine rankings. Well, they can probably get them, but I very much doubt it'll be for anything useful.
The search engine ranking companies I've studied have all appeared to offer open-ended guarantees, but if you search through the small print you'll find that invariably they limit you to a phrase or choice of phrases they've determined for you. As Shakespeare said, "There's small choice in rotten apples".
Getting you a high search engine ranking for a niche phrase is a completely different matter. If a ranking company says to you that you have a good chance of high ranking in a niche associated with your business then that can be a welcome help in your search for exposure.
Realistically though, if you're a minnow in a commercial field dominated by giants, you aren't going to be able to compete with the big boys for the more popular search terms. They bring too much to the table, it's as simple as that. But if a genuine search specialist finds through keyword research a niche search term that a) the big boys have overlooked, and b) that people are actively searching for, there's no reason at all you shouldn't get a high ranking for it.
But even under those favourable circumstances I'd still be wary of a guaranteed top search engine ranking!
